What is Matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder which has been used in the Japanese tea ceremony since the 12th century. Matcha Life hails from Kyoto in Japan, which has long been known as one of the best Matcha producing regions in the world. Matcha is made from shade grown, handpicked tea leaves, which are then stone ground into Matcha powder.

HOW TO SPOT HIGH QUALITY MATCHA

The best quality Matcha comes from Japan.

Ceremonial grade, which is the highest quality grade, needs to be shade grown for at least 20 days before harvest.

High quality Matcha has a vibrant, bright green colour.

High quality Matcha will produce a creamy froth when whisked in water.

Most importantly of all, high quality Matcha will taste earthy, smooth and slightly sweet. This flavour is from the amino acid L-theanine, which is a result of the shade growing process.
