Caring for Your Matcha Accessories

Matcha Life Product Care Guide

Each of our products is thoughtfully crafted with materials that highlight the beauty and tradition of matcha. To keep your items looking and performing their best, please follow these care guidelines.

Ceramic

Our ceramic items are designed for beauty and durability, yet they thrive with careful handling to preserve their artisanal quality.

  • Cleaning: For most ceramic items, hand wash with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge to maintain the quality of your ceramic items. Some pieces are dishwasher-safe—please check individual product descriptions for details.
  • Temperature Caution: Avoid sudden temperature changes, as ceramic can be sensitive to extreme shifts. This includes moving from a very hot to a very cold environment, which may lead to cracking.
  • Storage: Store ceramic items in a stable, dry area to prevent chipping or cracking. When possible.

Special care for Ukiyo Chawan

This handcrafted matcha bowl’s beautifully textured matt finish and organic form make it a unique piece of artistry, and its raw, unglazed surface requires gentle care to preserve its natural beauty over time.

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your matcha bowl, follow these care instructions:

  • Rinse immediately after each use to prevent matcha from settling into the surface.
  • Use mild dish soap and a soft sponge when cleaning. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, as they can wear down the texture and make the surface more prone to stains.
  • Do not soak the bowl for extended periods, as water can seep into the unglazed areas and cause marks.
  • Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth immediately after washing to prevent moisture from settling and leaving water stains.
  • Store in a dry place to avoid moisture buildup.

This bowl is a reflection of traditional Japanese aesthetics—imperfect, natural, and meant to develop character over time. With proper care, it will remain a treasured part of your matcha ritual.

Glass

Our glass items showcase a clear, minimalist beauty, ideal for presenting matcha in its purest form. Each piece is individually hand- or mouth-blown, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Small bubbles or subtle imperfections may occur, adding to the glass's natural beauty and delicate character

  • Cleaning: Handwashing is recommended for all glass items to avoid scratching or weakening the glass. Use a gentle sponge and mild soap.
  • Avoid Extreme Heat: Do not pour boiling water directly into glass items. Allow hot water to cool slightly before use to prevent cracking from sudden temperature changes.
  • Storage & Protection: Store glass items separately, ideally with padding or a designated space, to prevent chipping. Glass whisk holders should not be stacked or placed under heavy items to maintain their shape and clarity.

Bamboo

  • Rinsing After Use: Rinse with warm water immediately after each use to remove any matcha residue. Avoid soap, as it can damage the natural bamboo fibers.
  • Air Drying: To maintain the chasen's shape, air dry it by placing it on a whisk holder or upside down. This prevents moisture from collecting and helps the bamboo keep its structure.
  • Avoid Soaking: Prolonged exposure to water can cause the bamboo to warp or crack, so limit its contact with water as much as possible.
  • Replacement: With regular use, the chasen will naturally wear. We recommend replacing it every 3-6 months, depending on how often you prepare matcha.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel tools add a touch of modern functionality to your matcha experience. Proper care ensures their longevity and shine.

  • Cleaning: Most stainless steel items are dishwasher-safe, but handwashing helps maintain their finish. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads that could scratch the surface.
  • Drying: After washing, dry promptly with a soft cloth to prevent water spots or streaking.
  • Storage: Store in a dry area to prevent moisture buildup. The whisk head for electronic whisks should be detached and stored separately to prevent wear on both the whisk and the electronic parts.
